BEAUTY IS…WHITER WHITES
Makeup Artist, Claire (she) and Dermal Therapist, James (he) share their views…
Clear, bright and white eyes are renowned for being the best indicator of superior inner health, however, if you suffer from permanently bloodshot whites there are some clever little makeup tricks that will create the illusion of whiter whites.
A quick fix is to apply a white kohl pencil along the inner rim (or waterline) of the eye, then soften the effect by applying a skin coloured kohl pencil over the top of the white (as white on its own can be too harsh and obvious).
Try mixing MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating and MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20. These soft, creamy pencils are the perfect white and flesh coloured combination that will line and define in rich pigmented colour. What’s more, both are ophthalmologist tested so they’re perfect for irritated or sensitive eyes.
For a more dramatic effect (and even brighter looking eyeballs) line your inner rim at the bottom and the top using waterproof gel eyeliner in black, blue or chocolate brown. This will make your eye colour pop and the redness or sallowness recede.
Try Bobby Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner. With the precision of a liquid liner and the flexible feel of a gel, this twelve hour water-resistant formula is a best seller and a must have product for every eye application.
Unfortunately, discolorations to the eyes themselves cannot be relieved with the use of cosmetic interventions. To affect change on the whites themselves, a visit to your ophthalmologist may be in your sights.
As ‘she’ says, there are a few tricks of the trade when it comes to concealing eye imperfections. Just as the whites of the eyes can become less eye-catching, so too can the delicate tissue surrounding the eyes themselves.
As the skin around the eyes loses its volume, primarily due to the breakdown and cross-linking of collagen and elastin fibres, the deeper structures of the skin can become visible, creating a darker under-eye appearance. In addition, shadowing from the overhanging orbital, or eye-bones, can create a shadowing further highlighting these changes.
To combat the above effects, consider the following eye preparations:
A super-nourishing eye cream that contains SkinMedica’s patented growth factor complex, TNS which stimulates the skin’s production of collagen and elastin. With antioxidants, vitamins C and E, and hyaluronic acid to rehydrate and plump this is a must-have on your beauty shelf.
Combining the benefits of vitamin A and liquid-crystals, this extremely hydrating eye product has a pearlescent finish which conceals colour irregularities and reflects the shadowing as mentioned above.
There are many more factors which can lead to the visible changes we often see to the delicate eye area, including allergies, accumulation of fatty tissue, poor circulation etc. When addressing the eye area, it is always best to investigate the exact cause of your concerns so that you can select the best method for treatment.
