ASHA K

TV Host and Blogger
Working as a TV host and producer for the past nine years, Hollywood glam girl, Asha K has worked for networks such as Fox, MTV, Disney, MSN.com, Myspace.com, TV Guide Network, Nickelodeon, ABC and Nine Network Australia – just to name a few. Her real passion however is empowering women, resulting in her latest venture, a website, GirlTalkHQ which Asha hopes will be the next Oprah Winfrey Network for young women everywhere. Who’s Your? talks to Asha about her exciting career, her online baby and her number one piece of advice…

Home is?
Home right now is Los Angeles, California. I was born in Birmingham, UK and raised in Brisbane, Australia – I’m a bit of a gypsy!

What do you do?
TV Host and Blogger

Tea of coffee?
Tea! Everyday!

Most overused phrase?
“I mean, really?!”

What’s your mantra?
“Do your best and let God do the rest” and “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The one piece in your wardrobe you can’t live without?
My black boots. They are very similar to biker boots and I actually scored them as a bargain from Target for $16!

You’ve hosted, written and produced a number of TV shows around the world. What has been your favourite/most memorable experience and why?My favourite was being on the Disney Channel for two years, working in Sydney, Australia. I had just turned 21 and moved out of home for the first time so it was a big change! During my time I was lucky enough to travel to places like Fiji, Hong Kong, LA, New Zealand and all around Australia. I also worked with the most amazing, fun and creative people who are still friends to this day.

You’ve recently launched a new website, GirlTalkHQ. Tell us about the site and what inspired you to create it?
I realised that I didn’t want to go through life just being a TV host, going from job to job and always working for the “man”. I discovered that my passion was empowering and inspiring young women so I decided to launch GirlTalkHQ. GirlTalk aims to share uplifting and inspirational content from around the world, while also creating original content by interviewing amazing women in various fields and industries.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
You cannot always control everything or everyone, you can only control the way you react – and the way you react in a difficult situation will determine what kind of a person you are.

Please tell us your top 5 must-have’s

1. Bio-Oil – I swear by this stuff for my skin.

2. Tea – all different types and lots of it.

3. Friends and family – goes without saying. Man is not an island…

4. God – praying, meditating and my faith have been proven strongholds in my life through all seasons.

5. Pasta!

  • IN THE WORLD OF HOLLYWOOD, IT’S IMPORTANT TO STAY WELL-GROOMED… WHOSYOUR BEAUTICIAN?
  • If you’re looking for a great mani, pedi, massage or facial, my all-time favourite place in LA is Orchid Nail Salon and Spa in Beverly Hills. Don’t let the postcode fool you – they are very affordable! I get a mani and pedi for $35! Sue books all of my appointments for me and is always very helpful.
