Name:
Jodie Fox

Home is…
I’ve recently moved to New York City, USA from Sydney Australia.

What do you do?
I’m the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of online customisable shoe store, Shoes of Prey.

Shoes of Prey has grown exponentially since its establishment. What area of the business do you get most excited about being involved in?
I love it all, but marketing and product are probably my two favourite areas.

As a successful entrepreneur, what is your biggest advice to young, budding businesswomen?
Do everything before you’re ready. It’s great to have a plan and to be considered in what you’re doing, but you’ll learn so much on your first day of doing than in the months of planning.

What’s your favourite magazine/ blog for fashion inspiration?
There isn’t just one! My favourite magazine is Vanity Fair – I can read it cover to cover every month. I love Harpers Bazaar imagery and when it comes to blogs, I’m more of a Instagram person – You can hit up my list of people I follow there -  @jodieannefox

Your current favourite trend for shoes?
Pointy toed flats.

Since moving to New York to expand Shoes of Prey, what do you miss most about Australia?
I miss my family, friends and my cat Hunter (you can find images here: www.instagram.com/hunterlaru). I also miss something I can’t describe – Just being so culturally au feit with a place is a really nice feeling that I think I’ll only ever get in Australia.

And what has surprised you most about New York?
It is so incredibly friendly and generous. People are really amazing at championing one another and they are wonderful at building communities.

Which style icon would you most love to see wearing your designs?
The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton!

You travel the world for Shoes of Prey. What do you always bring in your carry on bag?
My laptop, iPhone, La Prairie Anti-aging stress cream (it’s an amazing mask to wear on flights), Lanolips lip balm in peach, a silk eye mask, Bose noise cancelling headset and a cashmere jumper.

Describe your typical day…
- Work out, first thing in the morning – no excuses!
- Scour press
- Review fashion trends and send relevant inspiration and resulting ideas (sketches etc) to product team
- Review fashion retail updates and share relevant changes to marketing team
- Pitch stories
- Do interviews
- Most weeks I’ll have a photo shoot or speak at an event
- Answer emails
- Meetings, meetings, meetings
- Work on business development ideas/proposal

What did you wear to your school formal?
Ah, how I’d hoped not to re-live this! A gold box pleat gown with a corset top.

What/ where would your last supper be?
At my nonna’s house with my family.

  • A great haircut can boost your confidence, who’s your must-see hairdresser?
  • Leonard from Desmond and Molly Jones – he is the best hairdresser I've ever had, and their colourist does amazing ballyage. I love that the salon is cool, understated and with great service. Even though I am now living in the US, I still wait and go back there for haircuts when I am home.
