What do you do…?
What’s your mantra?
Get over it. Get on with it!
What’s been your career highlight so far?
I think playing Mary Magdalene was my favourite highlight (but there have been many… hard to choose).
You have been a star since the age of 16, how has the music industry in Australia changed over the years?
The evolution is the artist becoming faster and faster every year. Expectations higher, velocity of turnover faster, disposability is built into the culture. We don’t expect to develop long relationships with artists.
You’ve worked with so many artists in the music industry. Who’s your next dream collaboration?
I would kill to sing with Chris Martin or perform with Coldplay. Big fan!
After years in the industry, you’re obviously an expert at touring. What are your essentials when on the road?
Gernetics skincare. Love the serum, cleanser and night cream – they leave my skin as soft as a baby’s bum! The range is very nurturing yet really removes all makeup. Stage makeup, being under hot lights and smoke machines can all be very toxic and ageing for your skin.
What are some of your favourite live music venues in Australia?
I like the cabaret clubs that you find in inner cities all over the country. I especially like the festival culture – you get to see all your favourites and immerse yourself in the atmosphere. Of course, Adelaide Cabaret Festival is the go to place for every type of artist…. but then I would say that!
What was the last gig you saw?
Bernadette Robinson’s show “Songs for Nobodies”. Incredible! Almost difficult to believe she is capable of producing the level of singing and acting together with such beautiful prose! (Joanna Murray smith) So believable! So beautiful! An epic piece.
