Lola Berry

Home is?
It was Melbourne but recently moved to Sydney.

What do you do?
I’m a quirky nutritionist who inspires people to live the best lives they can. My latest book is called The 20/20 Diet Cookbook.

Before I walk out the door I must have…
A smile on my face.

Fastidious about?
Probably food.

Annoying habit?
Always so busy so I don’t seem to stop. That could annoy people because it’s really hard for me to make time for hangouts, but I love being busy!

You’ve said that music is food for the soul. What are your top three artists to listen to?
Hmm…I love love love music, that’s hard!! At the moment I’m loving Oliver Tank, Lisa Mitchell and The National.

What is the most ‘out there’ recipe creation you have made to date that just works?
I love making Mexican spicy livers for breaky when I’m being a hardcore paleo.

What’s your favourite whacky food combination?
Chili and chocolate is ace!

Best kitchen appliance to buy for the kitchen and why?
A Vitamix blender is life changing. They make the best smoothies in the world!

Some may argue that eating healthily can be expensive. What are your top three tips to eat well without blowing the budget?
1. Buy local. It’s way cheaper plus you’re supporting your local economy
2. Eat seasonal. i.e If you’re buying mangoes in the middle of winter chances are they have been shipped in from somewhere else so they will cost more and will not be fresh.
3. Try growing your own food, even herbs. Homegrown veggies taste great and will save you loads of cashola!

Tell us about your daily skincare regime?
That one is simple…I use coconut oil for my skin!

When I’m not in the kitchen, or practicing yoga you can find me…
Out in nature. Biophilia is my favourite word and it literally means the healing power of mother nature. Yes, I’m a fairy hippy!

When cooking for friends, what’s your go-to dish?
I always go all out. I find out what they love and then make it my mission to create a super healthy option. I am also the queen of healthy desserts! My raw chocolate avocado cake always goes down a treat. I love a raw food creation, it’s normally something most people haven’t tried.

What’s always in your pantry?
Raw chocolate. My favourite is Pana Chocolate. They do a rose one – It’s amazing!
