Lorna Jane is now 25 years old, congratulations! What have been your biggest lessons in business so far, and do you think there is still more to learn?

It’s safe to say that over the past 25 years there’s been plenty of things to celebrate and be grateful for – but also mistakes and lessons to be learnt from them!

One of the biggest lessons over time has been to believe in myself and trust my instincts.  When I started Lorna Jane people told me a business selling just activewear could never be a success!  I backed myself, followed my dreams and today we have more than 170 stores across Australia and the United States and a social media following of more than 1.5 million!  I mean no one knows your business like you right!

Biggest fashion splurge?

Would have to be luxury accessories to complement my Lorna Jane. I recently bought 3 pairs of designer shoes in one afternoon, my favourites being a pair of midnight blue Manolo Blahnik heels.  I very rarely wear heels, but when I do I like to make a statement!

What advice do you have for women wanting to make the first step to leading a more active lifestyle?

Start now! There is no better time - I promise you won’t regret it!  Active Living is so much easier than you would think if you break it down into a daily practice of MOVE, NOURISH, BELIEVE.  This involves simply moving your body every day (some days it can be just walking the dog), nourishing with healthy food (maybe just promising to eat more greens and less sugar today) and believing anything is possible.

Having support is also really important when you’re starting on your Active Living journey, which is why we launched the Lorna Jane MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE blog a couple of years ago. There is absolutely no excuses not to be healthy when you can access all you need to know about living a healthier more active lifestyle just by turning on your computer.

It has everything from healthy recipes and exercise routines, to motivational interviews, daily mantras and just about everything you need to keep you on track and inspired to be active.  It has 90,000 visitors every week and is the perfect place for our sporty sisters to feel part of a community that cares just as much about kale smoothies and hybrid workouts as she does!

You used to be an aerobics instructor, what is your favourite way to exercise now?

I was a late convert to strength training but now it’s my favourite way to exercise.  I can honestly say that regular strength training in my 40s has made me physically stronger than I was in my 20s and 30s.

Bringing strength training into your routine can help you lose weight, gain muscle and sculpt your body the way you’ve always wanted.  Trust me, once you start it, you’ll be addicted too!

Your cookbook, Nourish – The Fit Woman’s Cook Book, was launched this year, and you’ll be signing copies at Vitality Show  – what’s your signature dish?

Nourish is a collection of all of my favourite recipes, but a signature dish would have to be the chili and garlic prawn skewers with quinoa and cauliflower pilaf.  It proves once and for all that healthy food can be nutritious and absolutely delicious all at the same time!

Beauty product you can’t live without?

I LOVE coconut oil!  It not only smells delicious, but acts as a nourishing, anti-aging, moisturising multi-vitamin for my skin. I cook with it, use it as a cleanser and moisturiser and I even massage it through my hair prior to washing it once a week.  It leaves my hair so much softer and smelling like summer!

What does vitality mean to you?

Vitality is all about being active and full of energy, which is exactly what my Active Living philosophy is all about.  Vitality is the outcome and Active Living is the way to achieve it!

Your next holiday will be…

Byron Bay for my birthday later this year.  All my closest family and friends are coming along so it will be an absolutely amazing week!

Who would you most love to see wearing Lorna Jane?

Believe it or not I still get a buzz when I see any women wearing Lorna Jane!  I love seeing how they style their active wear and take it as a compliment that they have chosen Lorna Jane over all of the other brands available.
