Marisa Remond knows style. Forging her name as a Fashion Editor in the glossy pages of Cleo magazine, these days Marisa delivers her up-to-the-minute sartorial nous to the digital masses as the Publisher of Allure Media – the group behind online style, beauty and pop culture bibles FabSugar, BellaSugar and PopSugar Australia. Whether you’re after the latest on trends or online shopping, Marisa’s expert advice is pretty sweet.

Home is?
Sydney’s Paddington

What do you do?
I’m the publisher of PopSugarFabSugar and BellaSugar Australia.

You’re an expert in…
Online shopping. Actually, just shopping in general!

You’re passionate about…
Home décor, fashion, food, family and friends.

What’s the most cherished item in your wardrobe?
Any jewellery given to me by my husband – my engagement and wedding rings, my Hermès Cape Cod watch and a Melissa Harris diamond heart necklace.

Which fashion blogs and websites do you like to check out?
I have a crazy-long list of bookmarked sites which I try to read every day. Cupcakes and Cashmere, Who What Wear, Peep My Style, Refinery29, Heart of Light, Table Tonic, The Design Files, A Cup of Jo, The Man Repeller, FabSugar, PopSugar, BellaSugar.

How should one create their own personal style?
Get inspired – either by celebrities or a trend, and then start building your wardrobe slowly. The worst thing you can do is rush out and buy trend pieces from one store each season – you’ll end up looking like a catalogue! I’m a firm believer in having a really strong capsule wardrobe and then adding to it, bit by bit.

What are the fashion staples every girl should own?
A navy and white stripe top (or five!) because they look awesome no matter which way you wear them.
A well-fitting pair of skinny jeans (because I HATE anything flared, skinny is streamlined and timeless)
Basic t-shirts and long sleeve tops in white, grey and cream for layering.
A lightweight scarf in a neutral hue.
A couple of pairs of essential flats or sneakers like Converse, Superga or Bensimon, black French Sole ballet flats (they give good toe-cleavage) and a fun weekend pair in a leopard print or bright colour.

In your opinion, what is the most fashionable city in the world?
Paris. It sounds clichéd but that whole city oozes style. I remember seeing women on the street there over five years ago wearing clothes I’d want to wear today – jeans, stripe tops, leather jackets, great boots.

What’s in your handbag?
For work, I use a See by Chloe black and gold tote which carries a small makeup bag, my Louis Vuitton diary (because I still like writing appointments), my iPhone and my Miu Miu wallet. On the weekend I downsize to either a blue mini Miu Miu bag I got over 5 years ago from Net-a-Porter or a small Marc by Marc Jacobs cream cross-body bag.

Who are your favourite Aussie designers right now?
Scanlan & Theodore (always) and I love Bassike and Jac + Jack. In terms of upcoming designers, Watson X Watson had a really fun fashion week collection which I want to see more of.

What are your fave online shopping sites?
Saks Fifth Avenue
Anthropologie: For homewares and accessories
J. Crew
The Outnet
Etsy: For cute nicks and nacks

Your friends know you for your delish, home-baked goodies. Where do you go to buy your produce?
I’ve recently started buying my groceries from Doorstep Organics and am really impressed with the quality of produce and service. They do next day delivery and are really easy (and lovely) to deal with.

  • We have explored every coffee shop near our office in Circular Quay but had finally decided that Utopia on Macquarie Street is best – they have strong All Press coffee which is what we need before 7am each morning! Peter, Lee and Chris all make a great coffee!
