RACHAEL MANNELL

Beauty editor for CLEO magazine
CLEO’s resident beauty guru is always looking primped and proper. Having worked at the magazine for seven years and in the beauty industry for over a decade, there’s no tip or trick she doesn’t know.Passionate about trialing treatments and testing products with military precision, she’s the go-to girl for the most accurate and comprehensive beauty advice.

Home is?
Paddington, NSW

What do you do?
I’m the beauty editor for CLEO magazine – Australia’s most iconic mag (and proud of it!).

You’re an expert in…
All things beauty-related but cosmetics in particular (sparkly, taupe eyeshadows and winged liner are my permanent faves).

You’re passionate about…
Cooking healthy, nutritious food and trying to get the work/life balance right (low stress means low cortisol levels which equals great skin!).

What are you reading?
I read about two books per week. I am an only child so my speed reading capabilities came from my mum shoving a book under my nose to keep me occupied! I just finished a crime novel and before that, The Room.

Name 3 things you always take on a holiday?
Sunscreen (UV rays cause up to 90% of skin damage), fake tan (I find you have more time on holidays to apply it) and a good book (or three if I have room!).

Tell us your top beauty secret?
Spend time on your foundation base. Work it into your skin with warm fingers so it becomes almost like a second skin.

You’re known for your gourmet, home-cooked meals. Where do you buy your produce?
I shop at the Eveleigh markets (www.eveleighmarket.com.au) every week to get the best in-season produce. Last week there were bunches of baby purple, white and orange carrots to buy. You can even enjoy an organic breakfast made by Kylie Kwong.

  • YOU'RE KNOWN FOR YOUR YOUTHFUL CLEAR SKIN. SO TELL US WHO'S YOUR SKIN THERAPIST?
  • I go to DMK once a month for facials. They are paramedical skincare specialists so aim to turn back time, rather than pamper. They have been looking after me for six years and I swear my pores are smaller.
