Name:
Rachel Gilbert

Home is?
Paddington

What do you do?
Fashion designer.

You’re passionate about…
Fashion, family and friends.

What’s the one luxury item you can’t live without?
My car, a BMW X5.

How would you describe your personal style?
Classic with an edge! I am obsessed with leather this season so I team my leather pants with a knit. I always like to wear one statement piece – either a piece of clothing or an accessory – to give an outfit a point of difference.

Which celeb does red carpet the best?
Blake Lively is an amazing style icon who always looks so chic and effortless on the red carpet.

Who would you most like to see wearing your designs?
Charlize Theron and Gisele Bundchen.

Can you name some of your celebrity clients?
Princess Beatrice, Blake Lively, Khloe Kardashian, Taylor Swift and Giuliana Rancic.

What are your top red carpet fashion rules?
1. Simple, chic and polished is a rule in one.
2. Never go overboard with make-up- nor fake tan!
3. If there is a plunging neckline involved, make sure you can do it justice!
4. Take time to properly match your accessories
- nothing worse than a clutch that doesn’t go with a gown.
5. Be confident in what you’re wearing

What’s your take on wedding dress codes?
Smart casual: Definitely a suit for a man however the tie is optional. Women should opt for more of a day dress – although I do love a sequin or two! Just make sure it’s more understated.
Cocktail: Suit and tie is a must for the lads. Ladies should go for a glam evening dress with perfectly matched accessories (perfect time to get out the bling!).
Black Tie: The most important and definitely the most exciting to attend! And there is nothing better than a man in black tie – black suit and a white shirt, so very chic! Girls should go all out. I would say a traditionally long evening gown is the best pick but a gorgeous embellished dress definitely seems a little more modern (and passable) these days.

  • YOU HAVE AMAZING SKIN. WHO'S YOUR DERMAL THERAPIST?
  • Dee at the Clear Skin Clinic in Double Bay. She does all my facials and skin treatments.
