Sally Phillips

Director of Sally Phillips
Sally Phillips’ eponymous label began in 2000, when after working as a stylist in a chain of Adelaide boutiques Sally created her label with a distinct direction in mind. The collection is constructed with wearable but directional classics to be shown by appointment only in a showroom environment to an exclusive private clientele base. Sally now shows her collection with her team of stylists nationally, consisting of superb separates and smart layering pieces, always injected with fabulous unique accessories and accouterments. The Sally Phillips label aims to offer the client a total look in a very time smart effective way with a totally special and personal shopping experience.

Name:
Sally Phillips

Home is…
Hyde Park, South Australia

What do you do?
I create beautiful pieces all derived from a need to dress myself personally – to fill the gaps in my own personal wardrobe and help others fill their gaps. To offer a fabulous service to busy, time poor clients. Being Sally Phillips is designing, constructing and running a fashion business.

Most unforgettable moment in your fashion career and why?
Dressing Dannii Minogue for X Factor. Dannii is stunning and she looked fabulous in the pieces.

What is the Sally Phillips point of difference?
At Sally Phillips we offer clients an individual personal shopping experience with their own personal stylist.

Four items that should be in every woman’s wardrobe and why?
Great pair of jeans, the perfect white shirt, well-cut blazer and a great watch.

If you weren’t a fashion designer, you would be…
Interior Designer, as I think whatever I would do I like to be creative aesthetically, and bring my vision to life.

You would spend your last $20 on:
A glass of French bubbles…. Perrier–Jouët is my favourite for its crisp green apple and citrus flavours.

You show each collection in private fittings by appointment with your clients. How far have some clients travelled to book a showing? This must result in some special relationships with some clients, what is that like?
Clients have travelled across states to see me, which is very flattering and excites me that they are so enthusiastic. I adore all of my clients and we share a great familiarity and love of fashion after years of knowing each other, this is very special.

What’s your favourite fragrance and why?
Jo Malone French Lime Blossom – very light and summery, it’s absolutely perfect for daytime.
Narciso Rodriguez is my go to perfume for the evening, which is also quite light and delicate.

You are a successful fashion designer without having formally trained, what advice would you have for others wanting to break in to the fashion area?
Study or start from a young age in a reputable fashion business moving your way up.

Where do you see the future of fashion going in Australia?
The world is so small today. Australia’s Fashion Industry is right up there on the map, and is becoming much more prominent on the international stage. Everyone seems to desire something from somewhere exotic and Australia is viewed as particularly special.

  • There are a lot of parties in the fashion business, who’s your favourite caterer to call on for your special events?
  • Anna Gerlach from Indulgence Food Design is my top pick; great food, very unique and their staff are always great!
