Founder of Slim Secrets
Slim Secrets is the result of an idea one sleepless night in 2005. Concerned about the growing rate of obesity, Sharon Thurin set about creating healthy snack foods to help curb this alarming epidemic. Noticing a gap in the health and wellbeing market for healthy snack foods, Sharon Thurin took a chance and founded Slim Secrets. Her leap of faith paid off, with her line of snack bars, cookies and chips now distributed nationally and overseas to a wide variety of outlets. Slim Secrets is now highly recognised and stamped as a successful global brand. Sharon is also a qualified lawyer and secondary teacher who has written a best selling first aid book for children.

What was the inspiration behind Slim Secrets?
I was working as a weight loss coach after setting up an anti-aging clinic and it really concerned me how many overweight patients we had and how their weight issues usually affected their overall health. It was during this time that I saw a gap in the health/wellbeing market for snacks that were nutritionally balanced, convenient, tasted great and that were also a bit cheeky. Most of the products available at that time were geared towards the body builder or were low in fat but then high in sugar…nothing balanced! I thought Slim Secrets would be a fun hobby – little did I know that it would become this rapidly expanding global business!

Why is it important to snack right?
Although many people feel guilty about snacking, snacks aren’t necessarily bad. In fact, well-planned weight-loss diets allow for snacks to help manage hunger and reduce bingeing as well as keep your metabolism working. Eating a healthy snack can tame your hunger without ruining your appetite for your next meal. The key to incorporating snacks into your weight-loss plan is to keep moderation and balance in mind.

How do you find “me time” and what do you do during this time?
This is the hardest to keep but I am learning more and more to say no when I just don’t think I can manage to fit everything in. I try to exercise in some shape or form most days, take time to have a massage when I feel it’s needed or anything else that may help distress. My resolution for 2013 is to achieve a better work-life balance!

Most exciting adventure?
Being involved with the Oscars in LA with Slim Secrets and going to Elton John’s party alone. It was exciting, challenging and most of all fun!
