What do you do?
Managing Director, WINK Models

Trend to forget?
Bandage dresses. The Herve Leger ones were bad enough and the knock offs are a whole new level of wrong.

Something I struggle with…
Sleeping in. I’m usually at my desk by 7:30am every day. I’m definitely a morning person.

Most proud of…
Making Smart Company Magazine’s ’30 Hottest Entrepreneurs under 30 list in 2012. To be included with such amazing, talented people was a real career highlight for me.

To succeed in the modelling industry one must…
Be incredibly hard working and committed, and be able to handle rejection.

Favourite song/songs of all time and why?
Ara Batur by Sigur Ros. It’s such a haunting, beautiful song that holds many amazing memories for me.

People are surprised that I…
Can fly a plane. I got my pilot license at fifteen, which meant I could fly before I could drive a car.

Favourite outfit for…
Presentation/meetings? Miu Miu blue and white high collared a-line dress, paired with a black velvet Gucci blazer, gold and silver men’s size Rolex, Cartier love bracelet and black Alaia heels.
No meetings? Bassike black track pants with an oversize Ksubi grey singlet, gold Ray Bans and my YSL pony hair high tops.
Friday’s? J Brand black leather jeans and any one of my many Equipment silk shirts, and a black patent sling back Louboutin. It’s the perfect outfit to take you from the office to after work drinks.

In 2012, you were one of three women listed on Smart Company’s ’30 Hottest under 30’ list for your business and entrepreneurial achievements. What are three key lessons you’ve learnt that have helped you run a successful business?
1. Delegate! It’s a skill I’m still working on every day but it’s important to recognise what your strengths are and delegate things that aren’t to others.
2. Get a business coach or mentor, someone to flesh out problems with and keep you accountable.
3. Take care of yourself. Your physical health is important and you can’t run a successful business if you’re not healthy and looking after yourself.

  • We hear you have very well groomed bows. So tell us, Who’s Your Eye Brow Artist?
  • After years of ruining my brows I really didn’t think they could ever be saved – but Marli totally turned them around…lifesaver!
