TESSA WHITE

Director and founder of Down That Little Lane.
Tessa is the director and founder of Down That Little Lane, an online store featuring unique, quirky gifts in one handy location. Working from home, being a mother and owning her own business means that Tessa is one busy woman. We’ve got the inside scoop on the contacts that help her along the way.

Home is?
North Balgowlah, NSW

What do you do?
I’m the director and founder of Down That Little Lane.

What’s your latest discovery?
Chocolate-covered goji berries. Yummm!

What are your must-visit websites?
A must is Anthropologie. I also love Emma’s DesignBlogg – I get lost in the pictures!

My five must-haves…
iPhone, Elizabeth Arden 8-hour Cream, vanilla candles, lululemon track pants and chocolate.

Working from home can be challenging. What keeps you motivated?
My passion to succeed! I have been self-employed all my life so I know rewards don’t come for free. Plus, I know if I snuck off to bed it would cost me a day on the weekend!

What’s your advice for women wanting to start their own business?
Research. Know your market and be sure you have something unique or something that is better than the rest. If there is a substantial cash investment, be sure you can last a year on the wages that will be coming in because most businesses spend the first year (at least) in debt.

You’re known for your amazing art collection. Who’s your framer?
I frame a lot of things and my framers are sensational. I use Australia in Focus.

Working online means you need a reliable server. Tell us, who’s your website host?
Macdaddy handles all our services. They are partners in Down That Little Lane and very valuable ones at that. We have a team on call 24 hours a day

  • YOUR SCHEDULE IS OBVIOUSLY JAM-PACKED? WHAT’S A SERVICE YOU REGULARLY USE TO HELP SAVE YOU TIME?
  • My dog sitter Louise is amazing. She’s a dog walker but I use her when I need to go away so that our dog can stay home.
