martiniInspired by our interview with Jaye Rakos and her love for a delicious espresso martini from iconic Melbourne bar, Borsche, Vodka and Tears, we’ve got the taste for all things espresso!

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver recounts the origin of the famous cocktail with this naughty anecdote…

Created in ‘80s Soho, London, by cocktail legend Dick Bradsell, the story goes that a delightful young lady entered his bar and asked Dick to make her a drink that “wakes me up and then [insert expletive here] me up”

A perennial favourite, espresso martinis are smooth, indulgent and are perfect as a post-dinner drink at your next dinner party – both the coffee and the coffee liquor aid in digestion. The bonus effect of a late-night perk up doesn’t go uncelebrated either!

Top tips for the perfect espresso martini:

- Chill the glasses prior to serving as most cocktails are not served with ice and this will assist in keeping your espresso at the perfect drinking temperature

- Make sure to have some whole coffee beans as a garnish to complete the picture perfect drink. If feeling especially indulgent or serving as part of a dessert, try sprinkling some high quality chocolate shavings over the top of the drink

- Of course, the quality of your coffee is going to have the biggest impact on your final cocktail, so where possible use the highest quality coffee and liquor possible
