Think positive with these pieces of good food news!
With summer just around the corner, diets and health fads are on every magazine page and are flooding our Instagram feed – which we all know don’t result in true health and wellbeing!
Constantly being bombarded with ‘don’t eat this, don’t do this’ can often have us spiralling out of control before day 3 of our attempt to make healthier choices. So instead of yelling out all the negatives, we thought we would try the contrary and give you some good food news that will have you feeling better about your pledge to get bikini body ready – positive thoughts lead to positive actions!
Good food news #1 – Wine time win: This one’s for wine lovers (so…most of us!) – it is actually good for you! In moderation of course, drinking wine can have a positive effect on your cardiovascular health. When paired with regular exercise, researchers found “the combination of moderate wine drinking plus regular exercise improves markers of atherosclerosis, suggesting that this combination is protective against cardiovascular disease”.
Good food news #2 – Train your brain!: You actually can train your brain to prefer healthy food. A US study showed the scans of overweight people who followed a healthier diet displayed changes in their brain’s reward centre when shown photos of healthy, low-calorie foods, suggesting an increased enjoyment of it. Who knew, sweet tooths can learn to really love the lentils and leaves!
Good news #3 – Fat is your friend! : Low –carb diets are more effective than low-fat ones. A study between two groups showed those on the low-carb regimen experienced significant weight loss benefits, losing roughly 3.6 kilos more than the low-fat group, and recorded a drop in fat mass, waist circumference and cholesterol levels. Load up on good fats, like a chicken avocado and walnut salad with olive oil dressing, minus the guilt!
