When it comes to framing a favourite memento or artwork, there are a few things to keep in mind when trying to achieve that creative gallery finish…

1. The colour palette.
The artwork being framed needs to be the hero. Avoid elaborate frames that detract from your piece. Stick to a neutral colour scheme that highlights the features of the artwork and complements the colours of the print & the room in which it will live.

2. The right size.
Size is the next component to consider. Measure the space and decide on what look you are trying to achieve. Be deliberate about your choice of mat boarder and frame, as this ratio (both size and width) will affect the overall impact of the piece. Seek advice from a professional if you are unsure.

3. The type of glass.
Avoid reflective glass, glare, streaking or blurriness and only use commercial window cleaners to clean framing glass. Avoid all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, waxes or any products that use ammonia. Most commercial window cleaners are good for cleaning

4. The way to display.
There are some basic rules when it comes to hanging your art correctly:
-  Trust your eye, there are no formulas, cheat sheets or golden ratios
-  Leave generous room between unframed works or abstract art
-  Hang at eye level and use the centre of the piece as your reference, not the edges of the frame
